Excessive Sleeping can Be a Health Risk

September 30th, 2007 at 02:20am Under Sleep / Sleep Disorders

Excessive Sleeping
For some people, this may leave them scratching their heads. While some of the people today are aching to sleep as long as possible, studies from the University of Warwick and University College in London show that sleeping beyond the normal sleeping hours of 6 to 7 hours may be a health risk as well.

Sure you will be getting the standard recharging and sanity but if we are pretty much believers in studies, then this should be something we should take notice of.

But the fact that those who slept considerably more also had a statistically higher mortality rate came as something of a surprise. And the researchers are still at a loss to explain just why the health of these people are adversely affected. “But it might be that abnormal amounts of sleep are tied to conditions such as depression, and physical exhaustion due to an illness already present, such as cancer,” said professor Francesco Cappuccio at the University of Warwick.

How Can I Sleep
People would often think that once they get to their bed, they can sleep right away. Wrong! While most of us feel that we are very weary and want to catch up on that much longed shuteye, we tend to find ourselves laying down and becoming restless and most of all, not being able to sleep!

This is only normal. Rarely can we find ourselves automatically sleeping once we lay flat on our back or cling on to that favorite pillow of ours. It just does not follow.

To help and ensure we don’t take long to finally sleep, here are some enumerated tips which can be explained further from the resource it came from:

  1. Teas
  2. Wine
  3. Books
  4. Music
  5. Bath
  6. Massage
  7. Exercise
  8. Sex

Sleep Anywhere but the Office

September 28th, 2007 at 08:20am Under Sleep / Sleep Disorders

Office Sleepovers
Sleeping needs comfort most of the time and most people get this from beds or sofas. However, for the working professionals of today who serve office work, they encounter some instances where they have to sleep overnight at the office to make sure that they meet deadlines. Apparently these instances do not have the liberty of time hence the need to maximize and extend working hours which may not sit well.

Although some employees have been given the go signal to take naps at the office, nothing beats the actual comfort that most people can obtain from sleeping in their actual rooms and homes.

Lack of Sleep, Lack of Anti-Bodies, Dangerous Living…

September 25th, 2007 at 03:40am Under Sleep / Sleep Disorders

Insomnia; Sleep Deprivation
It may sound like a broken record or even an elementary way of taking up health concerns, but again, not getting enough sleep will surely open up the body towards critical openings that will allow diseases and illnesses to set in. Worst, it may even lead to an early funeral for some, leading to a point where people may not have much time finding out what alternative courses of action should be considered to retain overall health.

Surely, this is a metaphor that only the sleep deprived patients can address. It is without question that people need sleep even if they tend to do the unlikely scenarios.

Never Blame the Baby!

September 24th, 2007 at 08:40am Under Sleep / Sleep Disorders

Parent and Child Care
The responsibilities involved in having a child and of course making sure that they grow up to be as healthy as possible include that of sacrifice. Unfortunately, this includes having to initially give up some sleep whenever a child wakes up in the middle of the night. Some may not be too inclined, calling it stressful but they should also consider that kids normally have to be monitored and attended to during their infant years.

It is not too much to ask. The joy of having a child is indeed exciting for all. But when it comes to the part of responsibility, for sure sleep will be at the tops of the list of deprived privileges that people once used to have.

Baby Safety Requires Wise Sleeping Positions

September 23rd, 2007 at 10:00am Under Sleep / Sleep Disorders

Baby Sleeping Flat on Back
Normally, babies would want to sleep in the position to which they can be comfortable on. Babies would normally sleep facing down which is quite dangerous since it may lead to suffocation at times or more commonly known as SIDS.

Indeed, training your infant to sleep flat on his or her back is hard as it is. For sure, they will be crying out loud for the awkward sleeping position they may find themselves in. However, it should be noted that most of the right things we have to do in order to be safe will always be uncomfortable.

For a sleeping child, addressing the best sleep position to disregard various sleeping issues is a good way to prevent potential deaths and health risks for unknowing infants today.

Sleeping on the Job Will Cost You!

September 22nd, 2007 at 11:20am Under Sleep / Sleep Disorders

No Sleeping Guards Allowed
Everyone has been given the liberty of sleeping as they wish but never on the job! This includes routine office work or even the security personnel who are tasked of safeguarding property and lives. While it may come boring at times, it cannot be discounted that some people would want to steal some minutes of shuteye. The thing is you just have to be creative and time it properly so you will not be noticed.

The after-effect may be unthinkable and disastrous for some job-related functions. There are breaks to which to catch short naps. But sleeping while on duty may prove to be costly. Hence, there is the need to be up and about in times of these.

Sleep Apnea May be in the Tonsils

September 21st, 2007 at 06:20am Under Sleep / Sleep Disorders

Kids With Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea problems are often seen as a problem in adults. However, even the kids today suffer from unsuspecting sleep apnea issues. It is indeed something that may not be thought of but hearing or seeing your child breathing abnormally may lead a person to think that there is really something wrong with the child.

Tonsils would normally be identified as a culprit towards being an obstruction towards air passage in most people today. While it may be surprising to note on most kids today, the reality is that sleep apnea does not choose or have preference on which it victimizes. This includes kids who seem to be normal but have issues once they go to bed and rest.
