What is the easiest way to strengthen your memories? Sleep!
WebMD Medical News reported at the end of April that Jeffrey Ellenbogen, MD, a neurologist and fellow in sleep research at Harvard Medical School, has found some interesting connections between sleep and memory.
“This is the first study to show that sleep protects memories from interference,” Ellenbogen says in an American Academy of Neurology news release.
“These results provide important insights into how the sleeping brain interacts with memories: It appears to strengthen them,” he says. “Perhaps, then, sleep disorders might worsen memory problems seen in dementia.”
Ellenbogen’s research shows that those who were asked to memorize word pairs and then were distracted by another set of word pairs were able to repeat the first words more accurately after a good night’s rest.
That is to say, “sleeping on it” prevented a distraction to the memory task, and could be useful for understanding how memory works.
So does this mean that we should all commit something to memory and then take a nap?
Maybe!

So many people feel that they can continue being awake and not get any sleep. But what for? Prestige? Overstress? You are only trying to prove yourself silly. A person alone who lacks sleep for more than 72 hours is already a crazy occurrence.
Sure there are events such as the Guiness Book of World records for people who may hold the number of days gone without sleep but how bout the hours of foregoing the value of human life and healthy living? It is crazy to think that people can keep themselves awake and expect to live life normally. It just simply doesn’t work that way.

Sooner or later, people who are on the go will have to take heed that lack of sleep may claim lives if not incapacitate people. Such mishaps can be seen. Many point this towards falling asleep behind the wheel or being drunk which many of us now is a prime reason for falling into these dizzy traps we encounter.
We all want to get to our own homes and lay on our beds as quickly as possible. But in able to do so, we must make sure we can reach them first. Attending events or forever being on the outside and trying to socialize or earn a living should have its own share of limitations. As humans, we will all get to the point of that need of rest since that is how our bodies work.
Hence, the next time you may be traveling by car, make sure you are fit to drive. Lives need sleep but not permanent ones where we may not wake up soundly anymore.

There have been a lot of energy drinks made available in the market today. These drinks such as that of Chin Chin Vitality Boost or Red Bull are mainly used to help add boost in the active lifestyles of most athletes. However today, many people have used them as a means of being awake since most of them have caffeine which we all know is the prime enemy of sleep.
While the added energy for sleep deprived people is a benefit, it cannot be discounted that most people will have to deal with sleep and fatigue at some point. It is simply something that is only a temporary resort and people should be aware of it.
This is a clear abuse of health. While it is okay to consume them from time to time, making it a habit will eventually become risky and people should be aware that the human body can take only so much.

Now, they are telling us, insomniacs should not even try getting sleep. It may sound like an advice that absolutely makes no sense, at first. But if you understand the rationale behind it, it doesn’t seem farfetched.
The whole report is over here and the research was spearheaded by Glasgow Sleep Centre at Glasgow University. The center admits hundreds of patients with sleep disorders yearly.
In relation to the research on insomnia, the director, Professor Colin Espie said:
“These kind of effects [not forcing sleep] are at least as good or better than a sleeping pill when it is working at its best.” He explained the programme worked by helping people allow sleep to occur naturally again.
Professor Espie said: “What a good sleeper is often doing is resisting sleep and allowing it to be something that overtakes them, whereas bad sleepers try to evoke sleep, which encourages it to go away.”
So, the next time you find no relief in other methods that supposedly helps your insomnia, do the opposite and let sleep take over naturally.

Sleeping is not far from being intoxicated. The lack of sleep will surely bother the focus that most people have when they are on the road. Perhaps the next time we drive, we should think twice if we are up to driving anywhere, regardless of how far it would be.

Drowsiness or yawning are symptoms of not being on the same page as most people who lack the necessary hours of sleep. In a sense, we tend to fall into this thing called microsleep wherein we get some short spells of yearning for sleep. Hopefully the next time we open our eyes, we are still in the same world.
